This page explains what personal information The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. collects through phillybarristers.com and its member portal, what we do with it, and what you can ask us to change. Questions go to [email protected].

What we collect

  • When you contact us. Your name, email address, phone number if you give one, and your message.
  • When you join or renew. Your name and contact details, law firm, practice area, bar admission date, and your membership type and payment history. If you add them, your mailing address and birthday too.
  • When you pay. Payments go through Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe directly; we never see or store it.
  • When you sign up for the newsletter. Your name and email address, kept in Mailchimp.
  • When you use the member portal. Your profile, your photo if you add one, the events you book and any messages you send the board. We also log sign-ins and account changes so we can spot misuse.
  • When you sign in with Google. Google gives us your name, email address and profile picture, and nothing else. We use the email address to find your membership. If you have no photo in the portal yet, your Google picture becomes your photo, and you can change or remove it whenever you like. We get no access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar or files.
  • When you book a public event. Your name, email address and how many tickets you want.
  • When you write to an attorney through Find an Attorney. Your name, email address and message, which we pass on to that attorney.

How we use it

We use it to run your membership: renewals, receipts, your membership card, the member directory and event bookings. We email you about your account, and send the newsletter if you asked for it. Some of it, like the sign-in log, is there to keep the site and portal secure and to keep spam out.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone for advertising.

The directories

The member directory inside the portal can only be seen by signed-in members. You decide whether you appear in it from your profile.

Find an Attorney is public, so people looking for a lawyer can find our members. Practicing attorneys in good standing are listed with their name, photo, firm and practice area, plus any public phone number, email, website or bio they choose to add. To take yourself off, untick “List me publicly” in your portal profile.

Who else handles it

We use a few outside services to run the site and portal. Each one gets only what it needs for its job.

  • Stripe takes payments.
  • Resend sends emails from the portal.
  • Mailchimp sends the newsletter.
  • Cloudflare delivers the site, checks that visitors are people rather than bots, and stores our backups.
  • Google runs Google sign-in if you choose to use it, and Google Analytics counts visits to the main website.
  • Our hosting companies run the website, the portal and their databases.

Cookies

The member portal uses cookies to keep you signed in and to remember whether you picked the light or dark theme. It doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. The main website uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits. Cloudflare may set a cookie while it checks that you’re not a bot.

How long we keep it

We keep membership and payment records for as long as the Association needs them. Security logs are deleted automatically after a while. If you want your information deleted, email us and we’ll delete everything we aren’t required to keep.

Your choices

You can update most of your details yourself in the portal, under Profile. To get a copy of what we hold about you, fix something you can’t change yourself, or ask us to delete it, email [email protected].

Changes to this page
