The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia

Hey everyone, and welcome!

I’m honored to serve as President of the Barristers Association of Philadelphia, an organization that has been a home for leadership, advocacy, fellowship, and excellence for Black lawyers in our city for generations.

I’m the granddaughter of domestic workers, the daughter of an educator and a telephone lineman, and my ancestors’ wildest dream. I carry that legacy into this role, and I don’t take your trust lightly.

This year, I’m leading with two ideas. First, we won’t mistake movement for achievement. Every program, CLE, and gathering should move us forward, and our success will be measured by our impact on our members and our community. Second, progress over perfection. I can’t promise you perfection, but I can promise you progress. I promise to make the best decisions I can to move us forward in excellence, because there is power in the process.

Whether you’re a seasoned attorney or just finding your footing, there’s a place for you here. As my mom always reminds me, to whom much is given, much is required. Only about 5% of lawyers are African American, so even on the days we don’t feel it, we’ve been given more than most, and it’s our duty to pay it forward.
